Defense Expenditures Summary
According to the Office of Management and Budget of the Executive Branch of the Federal Government, the expenditures for Defense went from $616 billion in FY 2008 to $678 billion in FY 2012. By FY2013, these expenditures were $633 billion and constitute 18% of the Federal budget. As the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan wind down, these expenditures will decrease. For instance, by 2019, Defense expenditures are projected to be $586 billion, a decrease of 7%.
