Simpson Bowles Report
The Simpson Bowles Report (its official title-The Moment of Truth Report: Report of the National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform) was commissioned by President Obama in April 2010 and issued 8 months later. The President gave the Commission a 2 part task: to bring the budget into primary balance (balance excluding interest costs) by FY2015 and to meaningfully improve the long term fiscal outlook. Senator Alan Simpson and former Clinton White House Chief of Staff Mr. Erskine Bowles led the bipartisan effort and published their findings in December 2010. Unfortunately, nothing has been done with their recommendations. This report, according to many people including Simpson and Bowles, provides the starting point for addressing our financial crisis in Washington. We all hope this will occur.
The report is attached as a PDF. The website, FixTheDebt.org, is one manifestation of their campaign to Fix the Debt. That campaign has assembled a wide array of business leaders, former members of Congress, budget experts and concerned citizens from around the country.
